What’s in Your Closet?

Do you have a corner in the house, where ‘stuff’ just seems to accumulate? A spare bedroom that has become the ‘work in progress’ area? A junk drawer that’s overflowing? An email box with unread messages from the past three years? I was recently thinking about this, and what it means. If you have a cluttered corner or a life full of stuff it can prevent new things from coming into your life.
When one door closes another door opens
It’s so true. And whether it’s piles of ‘stuff’ or tons of email, the fact is you must make way for new things in your life. It starts in your head… and is carried out in our lives, and our environment. If you’ve ever known a hoarder, it’s a drastic example of this principle. They can’t move on in life because they’re holding onto the past to the point where they’re blocking any future progress. The way you feel about forward progress in life can have dramatic effects on your life, and manifest in piles of clothes, emails or ‘junk drawers’. Carefully look around your environment and you may realize you’re holding onto the past, and blocking opportunities from appearing in your life. Close the door on the past while retaining the lessons, and move forward in your life.
As a concept you might agree that, ‘Yes, I want to be free of my past’ but can’t get there. Well here are some helpful ways for you to GO on the ROAD to emotional freedom and find more open doors:
- Become aware of your thoughts and feelings in all situations.
- Desire freedom from thoughts that keep you stuck in one place.
- Develop more self discipline.
- Develop some control over your mind and concentrate.
- Take advantage of affirmations and visualization.
- Some degree of inner peace is necessary as well. Inner peace helps you turn off unwanted, negative thoughts and emotions, and become more open-minded, positive and happy. Experience inner peace and it’s easier to detach from the past, keep an open mind, and therefore see more clearly the new doors that are waiting to open for you.
You can do it. Clear out the past and move forward. There are so many (formerly unseen) doors waiting for you, but you have to be free from the old, to find the new. Clear a path and move into a better you! It’s waiting!

Hi Brian–
Hey, that worked! Thanks for getting that set up so quickly.
The message of this blog has been all around me lately and I’ve been clearing things out at a new level…making myself ready for what’s next.
I especially liked your direct correlation between “stuff” and making room for new things in your life. A friend of mine recently let go of more than she thought she could in a move–far more than she had planned. The more she got rid of, the freer she felt. And when she was done, an astonishing thing happened. Her mind was completely quiet for days and remains calmer than it’s been in a long time. I do think we underestimate how much psychic drain our stuff has on us.
So here’s to quiet minds and peaceful spaces,
Maridel

Maridel: Thanks for your contribution. I am so grateful that this strikes a chord with you. It’s amazing that for such unique beings, all the similarities that bind us.
Reminds me of the quote – “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
Thanks for your thoughts and such a wonderful signature line!
To peaceful space indeed! Brian
