Flip the Switch
There’s so much I feel like I have to share, on a personal level that can potentially help others overcome challenges
and obstacles in their life. I had a late night, last night (started playing a movie at 11pm) then the rain tapping on the window woke me up a couple times in the night. This morning I woke at my typical time (a little after 7), felt super tired, and had the urge to fall back asleep. I laid in bed for probably fifteen minutes or so, doing the mental jump rope… “I can lay in bed till I want to wake up”, “I don’t have any meetings till later”, “what does it matter if I lay in bed and be lazy for while”. I seriously felt drained after all the back and forth.
“Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action.” —
Benjamin Disraeli
I put my power of persuasion (even works on yourself) to work, and thought “You need to get up and shower and get on with your day, be a productive person today”. It seriously took me a while and some mental coercing to get up today. It sounds like a simple thing, and it is! Falling off the path can be that simple, one wrong decision leading to another, and eventually – down you go!
“Our real problem is not our strength today; it is rather the vital necessity of
action today to ensure our strength tomorrow.” —
Calvin Coolidge
It reminded me that we all have choices in life, every day. Some big and some small. Each day hundreds of choices. Some are action and some are simply mental choices you make that comprise your day, and ultimately, who you are! Next time you have a thought in your mind about being lazy or being productive, taking it easy or getting motivated, remember that these ‘little decisions’ comprise your life. You’ll make millions by the time you’re life is over, and it’s often like flipping a switch. Making one ‘best possible’ decision makes the next one easier, and they’re cumulative.
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength,
not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.” —
Vincent T. Lombardi
The more ‘best’ decisions you make, the further you’ll be away from even considering that ‘death by chocolate’ dessert (on occasion maybe). The old addage is true, do something 21 times and it becomes a habit (good or bad), and before you know it – you incorporate the practice into your life. Do you have unintentional habits? Things you started doing and now you find yourself regularly (and often unconsciously) doing them? It’s like a switch, flip it on or off – just try to be cognizant of your choice, and how it ultimately affects your life. Give thanks today for what you have, give it away and you’ll grow tomorrow.
