Car Mileage: 1908 Ford Model T-25 mpg

2004 EPA average for all cars-21 mpg

You know the human race has finally arrived! We have never had, experienced or made so many scientific advances in the last few years than we could have dreamed of twenty years ago.
Just think of all the advances we have made. We now have steel that bounces like a rubber ball; I can virtually spy on your house across the ocean with the click of a few buttons. Hey, my car has more computer capability than the first space shuttle that landed on the moon!

Wait! Did I really say that? Yep. Is it true? Yep. Well that doesn’t make sense. Why?

Well if the model T Ford had a mileage rating of 25 mpg in 1908 and in 2004 more than 100 years later the average car had a rating of 21 mpg, that just cant be possible. Some people say you can’t make that comparison because of all the changes made to vehicles since then. You are right, we should not be able to compare our vehicle gas mileage to a 1908 because you should be getting more than double the mileage than our Fathers did over a hundred years ago.

Hey, I bet you don’t even get the EPA’s figure for your vehicle. The Detroit news states that “most drivers achieve only about 75 percent of the EPA mileage figures.”

For years some of the public has been trying to push for better mileage but now EVERYBODY is pushing for huge mileage increases in new vehicles. The question is why has it taken us so long to notice that our vehicles performance should be double than what they are. Because it didn’t hurt our pocket book like it does now. And have you noticed manufacturing plants are behind the 8 ball on producing more efficient vehicles? You are going to be waiting a while for non-hybrid fuel efficient cars to come off the line if they ever do.

We could come up with all kinds of conspiracy theories and ideas of the big oil and auto makers taking us to the cleaners but really it is time we act in the present and actually do something about it. And yes you can. First you need to take the EPA with a shovel full of salt. Who are they working for you or the motor company? All the hype they are coming out about that there are no real mileage enhancing products on the market is a box of rotten cat fish. Believe me some don’t work or work well but most do. I use them on a consistent basis’s and are confirmed with computer analysis. I see mpg gains of over 20 percent on vehicles regularly at work. Your vehicle can get better mileage, you just have to look around and see what will work for you in your situation.

The second thing I do to a car for mileage gains is to change every fluid in it. Yes, thats right. But I do not just change every fluid but I put in the right fluid. If you do a proper engine and tranny flush and correct filter change on top of replacing every oil with a top synthetic brand I guarantee you will gain over 10% in fuel efficiency. Also you should replace that old grease with new clean synthetic grease as well.

I have backed this up with actual computer tests not some off the top estimates. Look, your car probably needs a good fluid change over and don’t forget that full synthetics can give you up to 5 times the service before needing replaced. This also saves you down the road.
