Volkswagen and The Who Team Up in Magic Bus Contest

LONDON — In what promises to be one of the hippest automotive contests of 2008, Volkswagen and The Who are giving away a one-of-a-kind “Magic Bus” that pays homage to the 1960s teen anthem. Proceeds from the contest will benefit the British charity Teenage Cancer Trust.

The 1965 Volkswagen Transporter van is an eye popper in red, white and blue. It features a Union Jack flag on the roof and images of Keith Moon and John Entwistle, the late drummer and bass player who were original members of The Who. The idea for the contest comes out of a “collaboration between The Who and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles last year, which resulted in a special live performance by the band at an international celebration” in Hanover, Germany, said the Teenage Cancer Trust in a statement.

Enter the contest by clicking on the Magic Bus Web site.

A £5 ($10) entry fee gets you a free download of a previously unreleased live performance by The Who of “Magic Bus.” Entrants are asked to answer the less-than-challenging question: Which of the following was a hit single for The Who? 1) My Generation, 2) My Situation, 3) My Fixation or 4) My Preoccupation.

The Teenage Cancer Trust is described as focusing “on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, who often fall between facilities designed to cater for children or the elderly.” The contest ends July 8.
